The planet of communication now transits Gate 33: What painful stories did we refuse to hear from earlier this month? They’re coming back around again…
On July 26 Mercury retrogrades deeper; leaving Gate 7, the Gate of the Army/Advisor, to revisit Gate 33, the Gate of Privacy/Retreat, which we already experienced once this year, between July 3rd and 10th, 2025.
Stories of Heartache
Mercury says it’s time for us to revisit some unresolved issues that relate to how we remember the painful stories of the past.
Whatever we saw that week in early July was perhaps only a foreshadowing, or a sneak preview, of what’s to come this week, when we’re forced to take a closer look at it with Mercury, the planet that rules communication, travel, tech, messaging, our intellect and how we think.
What might this retrograde be highlighting for us a second time around?
Here were some headlines that circulated between July 3 and 10, 2025 that could resurface:
- Guadalupe River flooding, Texas
- Grand Canyon wildfire
- Tangerine signs ‘One Big Horrific Bill’ into law
- Volcano erupts in Indonesia
- The Dalai Lama turned 90
- Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp opens its doors, imprisons first detainees, and begins selling merch🤮
Gate 33, in the Throat Center, is a contemplative, empathetic, deep-feeling energy with a sharp memory.
If we didn’t heed the warnings that were being activated the last time Mercury transited it, we’ll be offered another opportunity to do so.

Gate 33, the Gate of Privacy/Retreat, requires ample solitude and time for reflection, during which it can absolutely agonize over, and process fully, all the heartbreaking things taking place in the world around it.
But Privacy/Retreat is hardwired to make sense of all that suffering,
to extract the stories of hope and dignity and overcoming,
and then communicate those lessons when the time is right,
helping others to remember how humanity has survived the past.
Do you have 33 activated in your body? Check your Human Design chart here to find out.
See if that 33 in the Throat is lit up for you.
If so, you ‘have’ this defined in your body; and may God bless you. Thank you for carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders so the rest of us don’t have to.
No, really. This is not an easy trait to carry. You’re one of the true golden-hearted souls who shows kindness and humanity, compassion and empathy, at all times — if you’re utilizing this energy the way it was meant to be used.
You’re one of the most sensitive, gentle-hearted souls who walk among us.
And you pick up on every difficulty swarming through the ether.
Boundaries and self-care are critical for you.
Nevertheless, like all the shapes, lines and numbers lit up on your HD chart, 33 is an energetic trait you’re here to learn how to wield in the highest expression.
If you don’t have 33 lit up on your chart, consider yourself blessed: you’ve had access to it this past week, between July 3 and 10, while Mercury has been transiting it. And you’ll get to experience it again at the end of the month.
Boundaries and self-care are critical for you right now, too.
Mercury will be activating all of us with messages and stories again over the next eight days; forcing us to bear witness to the horrors of humanity and to remember the old tales about what our ancestors had to go through in order to survive when they experienced this same flavor of trauma.
I heard so many references to Auschwitz early in July, with people comparing the new detention camp in the Everglades to the concentration camps of Germany. Talking heads and creators everywhere were pleading with whoever would listen, asking us “Have we learned nothing from the past?!”
Likewise, the July 4th Guadalupe River flood in Texas caused us all to stop in our tracks, having to bear witness to the tragedy of so many lives lost, so suddenly and senselessly — among them, children away at a Christian summer camp.
It all seemed so senseless. Like it could have been avoided.
What lessons can we learn from this? What did we miss the first time around?
Mercury in 33 will dare us to not look away or pretend like these things didn’t happen.
And we may feel the reverberation from these and other painful experiences all over again.
Mercury will be boosting the signal of suffering,
making us look again and listen more closely this time,
to see if we might actually take a few minutes to stop what we’re doing, Retreat to Privacy, reflect on the nonsensical, irrational, cruelty of it all,
acknowledge the wrongness — the inhumanity — of it,
and try to remember what our ancestors did to overcome a similar season of difficulty.
Will we squander this transit? Or will we lean into the highest vibration of 33 to carry a crucial lesson forward?
Perhaps this time ’round we’ll get more information about what gave rise to these horrifying situations from earlier in July.
Maybe those responsible will be called upon to answer for their misdeeds…
Time will tell.
Just remember you have the power to choose to:
A) lean into the highest expression of this energy for as long as it lasts, or
B) shield yourself from it by standing in the highest-vibrational strength of your own, innate powers (i.e., the ones illuminated on your Human Design chart).
A high-vibe 33:
- Confidently expresses the voice of “I remember…”
- Expresses love for others
- Operates with gentleness and kindness
- Gathers stories & experiences, then retreats to privacy to reflect & process them
- Holds onto the lessons/pain of the past; shares them with others to help them heal
- Is deeply empathetic
- Is nostalgic; finds meaning in the past
- Transmits the lessons from history to help humanity thrive & overcome challenges in the present
- Observes & synthesizes the hardships that had to be overcome by those who came before us, and offers this wisdom to help others right now
- Honors the need for solitude
- Provides a safe and loving space for cherished friends
- Keeps healthy boundaries around alone time
And here’s what it looks like to slide into the lower vibrations of Gate 33:
- Getting stuck in the past
- Sharing stories to scare/hurt others rather than to offer the lessons
- Missing the “sacredness” and the valuable lessons in life’s experiences
- ‘Spilling the tea’; thriving on gossip; spreading rumors
- Telling stories when not invited to, causing others to reject/avoid them
- Boring people with stories they’re not interested in hearing about
- Moving fast through life; avoiding quiet contemplation
- Getting involved with too many experiences
- Refusing to take the time to reflect on or learn from what’s taking place
- Not listening
The choice in how we each wield this energy is entirely up to us.
Thanks, as always, for reading and growing with me.
In service and gratitude,
Janeen
