What’s with all the Human Design geeks always spouting this business about “following your Strategy and Authority?”

These two simple yet confounding bits of your Human Design are the HOW of all those shapes, lines, numbers and symbols.

Strategy and Authority are HOW to USE your unique energetic imprint to make the necessary shifts in your life that help you feel good. At peace with yourself. Confident. Badass.

Following your S&A removes resistance.

They put you into that lighthearted state of flow.

They shepherd in serendipities and those exquisite moments where you find yourself in the right place, at the right time.

They help you remove the word “regret” from your everyday vocabulary.

And they keep you from getting involved in stuff you’d really rather not do.

In essence, following your S&A aligns you to your Highest Self.

What is Strategy?

Strategy, put simply, is the method we can each follow, individually, to BEST move through our day so that we stop running into brick walls, burning ourselves out, making promises we can’t keep, pushing and pushing but never getting anywhere, and getting uber frustrated.

It’s different for each of the Energy Types. So grab your chart and look to the right of the word “Strategy” so you know what you need to start practicing.

What is Authority?

Authority, put simply, is how YOU are UNIQUELY hardwired to make decisions. In today’s world, we’re typically taught that it’s “right” for everyone to decide on life’s big questions by using the power of our minds; rationale, logic, evidence, etc. And to “never ever” base decisions on our emotions.

Welp, Human Design says “Wrong!”

In fact, 50 percent of the world’s population is hardwired to make their big, lifey decisions based on how they’re feeling, over time. They can do so by checking in with their emotions over the course of hours, days, even weeks, and ONLY THEN issuing a final decision.

But we’ve been taught, in our society, to distrust the very real emotions coming from our Central Nervous System that are trying to send us very real messages about what’s right for us.

And if we buy into the hype that we need to hurry up and decide right now, using logic, we wind up getting super-disconnected from our emotions, and then we start making decisions based on what we “think” we “should” do, what would keep us from getting shamed, what our mom or dad says we “ought” to do, or some other misaligned reason.

And guess what? Those decisions almost always turn out to be regrettable ones.

If we could just get back to following our Authority, i.e., our own, built-in system for making wise choices about life’s biggest issues — like where to go to college, whether or not to date that guy, whether or not to accept a job offer, saying yes or no to a party invite — we would all be a whole lot happier, less exhausted, and higher functioning.

So, follow your Authority. Practice it. Give it a few months of experimentation. And see how your life improves.

Warning: This is tricky. It takes time. Give yourself grace and space to tinker. You got this.
