Captivating an Audience
Gate 56 in the Throat Center is the energy for being stimulated enough to collect and share great stories. As the Gate of Stimulation, aka the Wanderer, it’s constantly looking toward whatever might be curious and noteworthy in its environment. Open to new ideas and eager to experience life, 56 is always seeking entertainment.
In the high expression, it shares that enjoyment with others. “Make me laugh!” says 56, or, “Dance for me!” as it plunks down onto a cozy couch with a bowl of popcorn ready to focus its attention to some quirky or delightful situation.
Once stimulated, 56 has an incredible eye for interpreting and weaving together the complexities of life, and then re-telling those experiences, in vivid pictures, for others about them later.
Visually oriented by virtue of its connection via Gate 11 to the Mind Center, 56 is able to stitch ideas together through imagery. Nevertheless it’s still a Throat Gate, here to share what it believes.
It collects snippets from the past because it understands that we humans learn best through storytelling. With 56 regaling us with all it believes, we’re able to make sense of our own present circumstances. This makes 56 an excellent teacher or guide.
Experience is what helps this energy develop its perspective and establish its point. This energy is hungry for new ideas and the stories that others share, thus is always seeking new experiences.
With its naturally wandering quality, an aligned 56 can find the fun, amusement or humor in almost anything; and will hold onto a story until it’s ripe for sharing.

Stories Help Us Cope With Reality
Gate 56 is a Gate of Distraction, too, making its owner prone to constantly having its attention shifted to something more enticing. This isn’t necessarily a problem, however.
56 is always gathering up new anecdotes to experience more enjoyment and then, eventually, capture our attention in the way it expresses its own rendition of them. This energy is ace at helping us connect the dots in life, feel into the drama of a situation, put ourselves there and thus be able to cope with the drama we encounter every day.
Despite the captivating way it performs for us, we need to remember that 56 is not exactly sharing the hard truth. Instead, it expresses what it believes, or finds stimulating, and can often do so in a ‘larger than life’ kind of way.
56 is part of the Channel of Curiosity, connecting to Gate 11, the Gate of Peace/Ideas, in the Mind Center or ‘Ajna.’ With the full channel here, a person can be stimulated by their own continuous stream of ideas.
For those who don’t have 11 defined, the unattached 56 may always be seeking others’ ideas so it can feel stimulated and entertained.
Remember: Even if you don’t have Gate 56 lit up in your Human Design chart, you are being influenced by the Sun’s energy for six days as it crosses from Cancer into Leo each year.

“No one wants to hear me talk.”
In the low expression, 56 can grow bored easily; especially if it’s un(der)stimulated.
Likewise, it can suffer from ‘shiny object syndrome,’ chasing anything new and novel as a means toward amusement.
Despite its true yearning to share, a low-vibe 56 can also harrumph and shut down, convincing itself that, “No one wants to hear what I have to say.”
Or, it can exaggerate just to get attention.
Out of alignment, this energy can use its powers of storytelling to create a feeling of negativity in others. And when it doesn’t wait to be invited to share what it believes, since this is a Projected energy, others will likely reject or disregard 56.
It will help the person who has Gate 56 defined to trust that you have the power to capture others’ imaginations, tug their heartstrings, and help them deeply understand an experience.
Your ability to bring abstract ideas into the tangible realm is much needed! Just remember that your crowd, classroom or audience will be salivating to hear your stories as long as can wait until they ask for ’em.
If you’ve been on the fence about booking a private reading, now is a great time to open up to new ideas that stimulate and quench your thirst for stories (just think of what you can tell your friends someday after you sit for a reading with me!), while 56 is available to us all. Some Reflections to Help You Make Sense of Distractions & Wandering
Even if you don’t have 56 defined in your bodygraph, while the Sun transits through this energy theme in late July each year, it’s a great time to start to notice whether you are being distracted and seeking stimulation, and how that might be affecting you.
Journal on these any time:
- What kinds of interesting things is my attention being drawn to right now?
- What curiosities am I being invited to follow?
- Why might they be revealing themselves to me at this particular time?
- Am I being distracted for a reason?
- What stories can I share that will grab my audience’s attention?
- How can I use storytelling to teach, guide, or inform the people in my life?
- What important issues or experiences have I developed a belief about which are yearning to be shared with others?
