“My opinions don’t matter,” and Other Negative Self-Talk to Detox from Your Soul

Vulnerability in the Undefined or Open Mind Center

“I don’t know how to do this.”

“I’m not good at math.”

“I’m so disorganized.”

“My opinion doesn’t matter.”

If you routinely say these kinds of things to yourself or to others, it may suggest you’re out of alignment with the magnitudinous potential of your highest self.

And it’s an indicator that you likely have an Open or Undefined Mind Center (aka “Ajna”) that’s undergone some conditioning.

The good news? All conditioning can be reversed!

Take a look at the second triangle down from the top on your Human Design chart.

This represents the area in our bodies for processing the energy of computation, analysis, reasoning, deriving beliefs & opinions, and conceptualization.

Left-brain kind of activities, y’know?

Physiologically speaking, the Mind Center is affiliated with the Pituitary Gland.

Remember: Undefined or Open Centers (i.e., those that are white or blank) are the places where we ABSORB and AMPLIFY the energy that other people are broadcasting from their Defined Centers.

These energy centers are also highly prone to conditioning (esp. if they’re totally blank with no numbers lit up).

SO…WITH AN OPEN OR UNDEFINED MIND, YOU’RE SOAKING IN & INTENSIFYING OTHER PEOPLE’S OPINIONS, BELIEFS, METHODS FOR PROBLEM-SOLVING, REASONS, EXCUSES, PROCEDURES AND SYSTEMS.

And you’re doing this without knowing it or trying to.

This is just energy mechanics at work.

Neat, huh?

The problem arises when, as we soak in all that information, we CONFUSE other peoples’ ‘stuff’ for our own.

When we take on their ideals and strategies as the ‘right’ or ‘only’ way.

And then shame ourselves for not being able to stick with their methods or follow through when they aren’t around.

See, not everyone else’s methods for problem-solving are right for us.

Not everyone’s opinion of something means we must believe it.

Not everyone’s beliefs are valid.

We’ve got to take people and their convictions with a grain of salt.

And yet, the way our energy mechanics work, our openness in this region leaves us prone to developing self-doubt and self-criticism for somehow not keeping up with other peoples’ abilities to reach conclusions.

Meanwhile, our openness, or lack of definition, is here to help us connect directly with our highest selves. With Source or God or Divine Intelligence, whatever you wanna call it.

But when we incur a bunch of societal or familial shaming around our opinions, methods, or ability to compute stuff, we eventually learn to start doubting the answers we reach, or our ability to come up with them at all on our own.

We learn that our opinions don’t matter.

We learn that, because someone else speaks about their beliefs with such certainty, that we must be lacking in knowledge or facts.

That something is wrong with us for not expressing staunch idealism or steadfastness convictions.

Much of the time, I find that’s because our culture rewards people who speak with certainty and have all the answers and sound convincing and have developed that one strategy that’s alleged to work for everyone.

And yet, it’s all BS!

Developing the perspective that something is wrong with us for not having all the answers, all the time, is both limiting and disempowering.

It means we’ve had our openness conditioned. And that we’ve been disconnected from our gifts.

It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to detoxify these disempowering beliefs — especially, I find, in this tricky Mind Center.

Get Outta the Mind; Drop Into the Body

The Mind, or Ajna, is full of chatter and doubt. It wants proof and validation and evidence. It wants to rely on a solid strategy and get really good at one method of organization, for example.

But here’s the truth about the Open/Undefined Mind:

it’s the body’s red herring.

Our real inner wisdom is usually found — and felt — somewhere below the neck. Lurking elsewhere in our senses and not in our thoughts.

The body is always sending us signals, all the effing time.

Whether it’s through that sick-to-our-stomach feeling when a weirdo walks into the room, or that quiet whisper of fear we get when it’s late at night, or how our rib cage opens at the suggestion of a new job opportunity, our bodies are constantly sending us signals of what’s good and right and safe for us.

And, ohhhhh, how we love to ignore them.

The Mind always finds a way to weasel itself in and cast a shadow of doubt over the body’s knowing.

And, thus, we disconnect from our power.

Reclaim the Power of your Open or Undefined Mind

With the Open or Undefined Mind, there is no single strategy or method that will work for you.

You are, quite literally, open to considering and trying out all kinds of perspectives.

You can absorb a variety of methodologies.

You can see all strategies potentially working, and you can tolerate them for a while.

For you, there are a dozen or more different ways to approach a problem and reach an answer.

You are not hard-wired to develop staunch beliefs in one thing or another.

You are blessed with the ability to shift, change and grow; and your beliefs and opinions will shift and grow as you do.

A famous saying goes something like,

“You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”

Jim Rohn, Motivational Speaker

We can debate whether it’s true. I’m not sure I believe it; I have an Undefined Mind, after all.

But consider this idea when you’re looking at your Human Design chart.

Then ask yourself:

  • Where are all the places you’re soaking up others’ energy?
  • Are the people in your life that you spend the most time with radiating positivity, expansion, acceptance, grace, tolerance, and respect…or not?
  • Do you want to continue hanging out with them if they don’t?
  • What kinds of attitudes, beliefs, opinions and expectations were you raised with?
  • How did that affect the person you are today?
  • In what ways might any long-ago established family/cultural values have conditioned the way you think about yourself now?

If you’re Open or Undefined in the Mind, be aware that you’re picking up what others are laying down at all times.

Spend some time alone to ‘wring out’ the sponge in your head that has soaked up all their beliefs.

What inner knowing emerges when you’re in solitude? What is the body telling you?
