Unshakeable
Gate 52, the Gate of Stillness, is the energy for remaining right where you are.
You can think of Gate 52 like a mountain. Strong, still, unmovable.
At its base, the Gate of Stillness hunkers down, settles its weight upon the Earth, and allows any mayhem to go right on swirling around it without ever being shaken.
Likewise, such as the mountain’s peak, Gate 52 has an elevated perspective. It drives upward toward a breathtaking focal point to pierce the sky and reach clarity about what’s important.
Gate 52 is poised to sit there, stock still, and wait for that familiar, intermittent pulse telling it when it’s time to take action.

Passive Resistance
Gate 52 is the energy for getting quiet, going inward, waiting, and being still. It’s meditative energy that can give a person the strength (or force) to stay where they are for the long haul, as long as they feel appreciated and ‘of-service’ there.

In the high expression, this energy uses the pressure of the Root to remain still, finding something to concentrate on. It uses that pressure to help itself and others feel grounded.
In alignment, 52 can seem anti-social, but that’s probably just due to its ability to sit comfortably amidst the silence. This gate provides passive tension, focus and concentration, and is sometimes called ‘the Buddha’ Gate.
And while it’s being quiet, it allows you to get in touch with when is the precise moment to launch into action. Until then, 52 wants to sit with its hands pressed together at heart center.
It also reminds me of the courageous Civil Rights activists who protested segregation and ‘whites only’ establishments using the ‘sit-in’ tactic in the 1960s.
This method was effective because of the demonstrators’ determination and their steadfast, passive resistance. The way Black Americans and their allies quietly, unshakably, peacefully sat at lunch counters across the country, where they were definitely not welcome, certainly proved a point about the senselessness of racism.
I wish we could say, “Look how far we’ve come since then!” But…
Lazy Couch Potato
In the lower vibration, or shadow state, Gate 52 can show up in one of two ways.
The lazy cousin of the Buddha Gate, it’s also referred to sometimes as the Couch Potato Gate.
This is due to the pressure it’s under to not move — it just can’t handle the stress, so it breaks down and becomes immobile.
This creates a heavy force in a person to stay in one place for longer than is good for them. And that kind of pressure is tough to overcome.
As the saying goes, “A body in motion stays in motion. A body at rest stays at rest.”
If you’re into the whole Law of Attraction thing, then you’ve probably heard Abraham-Hicks talk about ‘momentum’ and the amount of force it takes to turn a speeding train around to start getting into the receptive mode when all you’re doing is going full-speed-ahead into Negativity Land.
This is how I felt for a lot of years. I didn’t even know I was stagnant, negative, stuck, and depressed. My entire teenage experience can be summed up by the image of me on the couch with a bag of mini white powdered doughnuts watching The Guiding Light.
I have Gate 52 defined, no surprise. And I absolutely received the criticism of being lazy (and selfish), leading to hyper self-criticism, self-loathing, and shame.
I’m still unwinding all that, learning to forgive myself for needing rest, giving myself permission to relax…on occasion, and accepting the dynamic of being raised in a household of Sacral types who don’t need the kind of decompression us non-Sacrals do.
Just as with all the Gates of the Root Center, there is such a thing as good pressure and bad pressure.
Good pressure, or stress, helps us GSD (“get shit done”). It gets us to the show on time. It helps us make our deadlines and schedule our dental appointments with regularity.
But bad pressure or stress can turn into depression. With Gate 52’s stillness energy at play, we sometimes don’t know what to concentrate on, so we stress ourselves out and turn catatonic, incapable of getting moving, because we have no clue what’s even important anymore.
The Busy-Body
On the other side of the low-vibe coin, Gate 52 can be so terrified of what important truth bombs might emerge in the quiet stillness that it altogether resists ever stopping, even for a minute.
It’s got floors to mop! Mantlepieces to dust! Dishes to wash! There’s never enough time to get it all done!
“I can’t stop now or I’ll never finish!” it proclaims, hurriedly wiping the ring from underneath your water glass.
Gate 52 can be so totally out of alignment that it avoids the kind of quiet contemplation required to put its ass in the chair, face what’s really stressing it out, and concentrate until what’s meaningful presents itself.
All this is why meditation, time in nature, solitude and breathing room for processing stress is so important.

The true gift of Gate 52 is its ability to rise above the noise, smile in quiet repose, allow the pressure to build however it will, and launch into action only when the body says it’s go time.
