The Generous Leader
Gate 45, known as the Gate of the Ruler or the Gate of the Gatherer, is the energy for gathering valuable resources and then fairly sharing them to keep your people comfortable, informed, fed or content.
This Throat-Center energy proclaims “I have!” (or “I don’t have”), and is here to talk about exactly that — not in a bragging way, but in a “Here’s what I can/cannot offer you” kind of way.
45 has a knack for demonstrating all the wealth and wisdom it owns (as long as whoever owns it is living life in the high vibe) by distributing those resources equally among its team members, so that they may benefit, grow and prosper.
Like the name says, Gate 45, the Gatherer, carries with it a natural ability to gather up and, thus, ‘have,’ literal money, or figurative wealth, like: food and shelter, a position of power or influential title, knowledge and information, useful contacts and ‘pull’ when you need a letter of recommendation, maybe a house on a remote tropical island you can totally stay at this summer, and probably even a boat. Maybe.
And it doesn’t have to work super-hard to gather all those goodies, either. No; 45 is designed to own and to have; not necessarily to roll up its sleeves or dive in to do any dirty work.
The Money Attractor-Manager Relationship
Emanating from the Throat Center, which formulates ideas into words that inspire action, this Gate 45 of the Ruler/Gatherer reaches toward the Heart Center, also known as the Ego or Will Center, which we know is about evaluating the worth of things in the material plane, as well as detecting what projects, relationships, jobs or opportunities we deem worthy of our time and effort.
(Note: The Heart/Ego is also the place where we process whether, and how much, we value ourselves. This can be a particularly tricky spot for a lot of folks, especially for those who have an Open or Undefined Heart Center, which leaves us painfully open to believing we’re unworthy, worthless, and/or undeserving of a decent life. When 45 connects to the Heart/Ego Center, it does so via the Channel of Money (21-45), meeting Gate 21, the Gate of Control.
We’ve learned from this previous blog post that Gate 21, while it may tend toward the control-freaky side, happens to be ace at managing resources, even if it’s not exactly great at generating them.
That leaves Gate 45 to be the one in this duo that’s in charge of building wealth and generating things of value on the material plane. And it does so with aplomb, having this natural ability to ‘gather.’ It can gather people together for mutual gain just as well as it can gather up stuff.
Another way to look at this 45-21 Money Attractor/Manager relationship: 21 is glad to schedule which friends are coming on the luxurious boat which weekend, and to make sure the island dream house has fresh towels for new visitors each week. But it’s all made possible on 45’s dime.
45 doesn’t just agree to keep on giving without receiving something in return, however. It needs to know that those who are benefiting will pony up in some way to take care of 45 in return. It flourishes when it sees its generosity is being utilized and appreciated. But it wants to know it is valued; otherwise it won’t bother making the effort.
When this Ruler/Gatherer is vibrating high, it embraces its wealth and allows everything of value to flow forth, ensuring its needs and wants will be covered, knowing that its ability to share to provide for others will continue to be supported by the Universe.
Materialism…In A Good Way!
Given Gate 45’s Ruler vibe, as it issues proclamations toward the Heart/Ego and effortlessly attracts resources to itself, it can come off as materialistic in nature. It is here to talk about what it has, after all.
But, unlike in “real” life — i.e. the conditioned ways many of us have been raised to think about money as ‘the root of all evil’ — in Human Design, “I have” spoken egoically isn’t a bad thing. Neither is money.
Gate 45 understands that money can be the key to a life of privilege, which leads to safety, security and comfort, which gives a person room to reflect, tend to their spiritual needs, evolve with compassion and ascend through being generous.
Typically, that level of awareness and reflection is out of reach for those who are operating in survival mode, concerned only about where their next meal is coming from and whether they’ll make rent this month.
Sometimes witnessing true, actual poverty or disadvantage can make the privileged recoil and become ashamed over their financial status.
For example, we’ve all heard stories of the “trust fund baby” who grows up with a guaranteed spot at an Ivy League university, only to drop out mid-sophomore year, pursue a life of fully-funded leisure via train trip across Europe, choosing to wear the same outfit day after day, even if it’s made of the finest fabrics the fashion world has to offer.
They eventually shun ‘capitalism’ altogether (by making a public statement from some red-carpet event) in an effort to prove just how ‘gross’ wealth is. They denounce materialism while lounging in the sleeping pod of their private jet, and will even let their Italian-leather loafers rot through just to prove they can identify with the working class. They refuse to ever ‘work for the man’ just to earn a lousy paycheck and commit to a life in an Ashram in Bali where they can be more spiritual and, thus, closer to God.
Come on! Makes you wanna gag, right?
This is an extreme example, but we’ve seen it before. And it’s one way of understanding what Gate 45 looks like when it’s out of alignment.
In alignment, however, Gate 45 understands the power of money, honors the privileges it was born with, and takes seriously its natural position of power.
Though it may like to spend, 45 has the capacity to transcend egoic yearnings to acquire more stuff just for the sake of acquiring more stuff. It doesn’t flaunt its wealth or use it to hold power over others.
Instead, with its innate ability to sweep up resources without having to work super hard to acquire them, a high-vibe 45 doesn’t shirk money, valuables or leadership. It embraces them.
The Proud Teacher
45’s uniquely powerful, “wealthy” position makes access to a safe and secure lifestyle possible for those around it. Wealth may not always refer to the financial kind, but instead, the figurative kind: richness of knowledge, wisdom, and lessons learned.
While this Ruler/Gatherer is careful not to get taken advantage of, what with all its generosity, it makes for a great teacher. People already naturally gather around someone with this Gate, energetically poised to receive from it. Why not guide them by using all those advantageous resources?
45 can serve the highest good of itself and its people when it distributes its unique knowledge or special skills to help everyone in its tribe prosper.
And, oh, how 45 loves seeing its students rise to the top with their newfound learning!
Money Issues
In the low vibration, 45 can force its natural leadership qualities on others by expecting them to cooperate — especially if it means swearing fealty in exchange for gifts.
Here, too, 45 can tend to struggle with managing finances and wind up facing big money issues. At times, it can express controlling tendencies (the low vibe of its partner, Gate 21), or show off, acting like entitled royalty.
Out of alignment, 45 has a really hard time taking care of the resources it already does possess. Unfortunately, that can often manifest in a scarcity mindset, hoarding and low self-worth.
Remember: As the Sun passes through this Gemini energy each year (mid-June), we will ALL feel some degree of The Gatherer, even if we don’t have it defined in our Human Design chart.
So be on the lookout for sudden urges to spend, or the theme of money cropping up intensely during this transit.
