Gate 35: The Gate of Change a.k.a. Progress

Gate 35 in Human Design is the energy for making progress, expressing the need to launch into something new, to move on when things get stale and boring, and to shake life up to break the monotony. “Every Day the Clock Resets…”

Gate 35 is driven by a yearning to experience newness. It wants a challenge, so you’ll see it undertaking new projects, going somewhere it’s never been, trying an extreme sport or just shaking things up.

That’s because Gate 35 is the Human Design bodygraph’s Representative for Progress.

It desires to get better at things, and when it engages in new activities that are ‘right’ for it, it gathers wisdom that helps it — and, indirectly, all of us — truly understand the nature of change.

Gate 35, located in the Throat Center, says, “I feel!” It’s connected to Gate 36, after all, in the Emotional Solar Plexus. So it’s no wonder this energy can come with a whole array of big feelings.

Wouldn’t you, if you were always tossing yourself into the Next Big Thing?

In one way, you can think of Gate 35 as “taking one for the team.”

This Collective, Sensing energy puts itself out there to experience all the things — kinda so that the rest of us don’t have to.

Pretty brave, eh?

35 raises its hand to be the guinea pig — because doing so feels natural to it — but it doesn’t always work out so easily for Gate 35.

And yet, the hardest lessons are sometimes the most beautiful ones to behold! It just takes time, and some wound-licking perspective, for 35 to see them that way.

Nevertheless, 35 is HERE for it; all of it: for the lessons learned by way of feeling all those new, enticing, invigorating experiences.

Collector of Expertise via Experience

In the high expression, Gate 35 collects experiences, learns from them, and uses its Throat energy to share them with the Collective.

Given its knack for picking up skills with ease, Gate 35 is highly capable; a Jack-of-all-Trades figure (especially when connected to the info-addicted Mad Hatter, Gate 36).

You’d kind of need to be good at everything, wouldn’t you, if you were going to sample life like a speed-dating smorgasbord.

35 is genuinely, deeply, innately curious about life, and so it continues to seek new experiences on an everlasting mission to add new skills to its toolbelt.

“I’d rather gouge my own eyes out than keep doing this…”

In the lower vibration or ‘shadow’ state, 35 can show up as bored, jaded, and listless.

It can feel the ‘curse of competence,’ claiming to be good at everything but not sharing its gifts.

And it will exhibit over-confidence, even where that wouldn’t be appropriate.

With a desire for adventure that can’t seem to be fulfilled, it doesn’t learn from life’s lessons.

And, in some extreme situations, 35 can try to satisfy its unquenchable thirst for newness through self-destructive behaviors (watch out for misuse of drugs or alcohol here).

35 just might try anything to fend off the monotony.

However, this energy has the powerful potential for driving our world forward in the right direction.

Without the Gate 35’s among us who are valiantly diving headlong into experiences, learning from them, and telling us how they feel, how would we ever make progress toward anything?
