Gate 2 in Human Design is about creating beauty in your own way, allowing abundance to flow forth from it, and authentically following the path that’s right for you.
Gate No: 2 – The Gate of The Receptive

Do you feel supported? Do you know you’re capable of receiving? Do you let abundance in? That’s the question Gate 2 wants us to ask ourselves.
Gate 2 in Human Design, The Gate of the Receptive, also known as the Direction of the Self, is about letting the goodness in and knowing what to do with it. It’s about responsible spending. It exudes confident abundance, allows support to flow, trusts prosperity to pour forth, follows the pull of its unique direction, and knows that it deserves to receive.
The most Yin of all the energies, Gate 2 has the energy for receiving, managing and allocating the resources that are necessary to fulfill its life path.
That Magnet Thing in Your Chest
Gate 2 holds the Magnetic Monopole and thus creates direction; a clear and concise path someone who has this energy is driven to follow, regardless of how, who or what comes with them.
This is visionary energy, it’s big-picture perspective that can see the possibilities for a brighter future.
And it loves beauty: it’s drawn to create and align with beautiful things and an aesthetic environment.
Gate 2 is also good at spending resources, but it needs its counterpart, Gate 14, to generate them.
Know that you’re designed to trust in your superpower to receive with the energy of this Gate, even if letting goodness in feels uncomfortable sometimes.
(Like those slices of birthday cake at the office party that you keep passing on to your coworkers because you think it’s the right thing to do, though you desperately want that dang piece of cake for yourself. Just take it!)
Trust that you are always being guided to the right resources (including people, skills, items, etc.) that will continue to pull you along your right path. Your contribution to the world comes by way of following your true path, so that others may follow suit.
Note: the planets transit through each of the 64 Gates at different times. So, whether we HAVE a Gate or not doesn’t entirely matter: we all feel these energies eventually, as the celestial bodies orbit through them. We’re made of the same stuff; y’know? Nitrogen and all that.
Unapologetic Uniqueness & Receivership
If you DO have it defined, it means the energy of Gate 2 is pretty reliably, consistently available to you. Lucky you!
If you’re in full, unapologetic receivership, allowing support to find and guide you (i.e., financial support, human/friendship support, love, resources of any kind) if you’re wise about spending & you ‘know’ from within that you will always be supported, bc you’re deserving of it, kudos! You’re high vibing it all the way!
But if you’re identifying a lil more with the low vibe of Gate 2, consider a few tweaks and a little self-reflection to dig into why.
Pouty Princess Much?
The lower vibe can show up as wasteful and careless about money. It reminds me of a spoiled princess who spends her daddy’s money on all the sparkly toys with no concept of what those toys cost to manufacture, package, transport and display on the store shelves.
A low-vibe Gate 2 can also be someone who totally refuses support, Insists on doing things all by itself, ignores the direction its spirit is pulling it along to choose, instead, to follow the path someone else thought would be better for it.
Oh, how many miserable lawyers and doctors are out there making their parents incredibly proud, yet all they ever really for themselves wanted was to make jewelry or sit at a potter’s wheel?
The shadow of Gate 2 then winds up shaming itself for not generating resources or creating wealth, all because it was too afraid to follow its own true path.
So, if you’re in the lower vibe of Gate 2, consider what it would feel like to stop shaming yourself about whether you’re making money, and look toward all those other areas in life where you could simply receive it.
What different varieties of support actually do keep showing up at your door?
Where in your life do you keep refusing to sign for the package, or refusing to eat the cake?
Why do you default to saying, “No, thanks”?
Do you not feel deserving?
‘Cause, you are inherently deserving, simply by you existing.
So, yo, let that goodness in! Stop burning yourself out trying to force things to happen, and instead, let yourself float on the magic carpet that’s hovering right outside your window!
As the Human.Design Daily Impact says, Gate 2 “reminds us not to die with our music still inside us.”
