Parenting by Human Design Type is a series where we poke a little fun at ourselves based on our Human Design Energy Type! We’ll explore what parenting looks like, in real life, as far as how we interact with our children. This time we look at: Generator Moms!
Raising Kids as a Human Design Generator
Generator Moms, your kids are so lucky! That’s because you’re built with the regenerative life-force energy that Gets Stuff Done.
There’s a pretty good chance you are your child’s class Room Mom, or you lead the Brownie troop, or you coach soccer. Along with working a full day and coming home to effortlessly jump into chores and drop the kids off at all the activities around town.
And then you might even head over to your mom’s to mow her grass or scrub her kitchen floor…
I mean, seriously, how do you even do it?!
In case it’s not obvious, allow me to call your attention to the fact that not everyone has such staggering go-power! And that maybe we’re a wee bit jealous?
Either way, we bow down, Generator Mom!
Your Built-In, Self-Charging Battery Pack is Always Responding
So, what is it that makes you light up and take off like a rocket all day long? It’s your defined Sacral Center. Generators and Manifesting Generators have one. And it houses the innate battery pack you came with that self-charges whenever you see, hear, smell, taste, touch or even remotely become aware of something that gets you jazzed and excited.
Whether you receive an invite to go dancing Friday night with the lady-friends or catch the tail end of a TV commercial announcing a sale at TJ Maxx, your Defined Sacral is constantly responding and letting you know whether that thing is a ‘yay’ or a ‘nay.’
Us non-Sacral types (Manifestors, Projectors and Reflectors) don’t have that. But, boy, do we wish we did sometimes.
When something’s a “Hell yes!” for you, then you’re drawn right to it, like the proverbial moth to a flame. That inner green-means-go light flashes on inside your gut and tells you, “I can totally do that. In fact, I totally want that!”
But, when something’s a “You-gotta-be-kidding-me” or a “Aw helllll no,” you’ll feel that, too.
The trick is to listen to the “nopes” and honor them. Because Generators are known for being very prone to burnout when they keep doing stuff they don’t wanna do, just because, energy-wise, they have the capacity to.
So beware of burning your gorgeous light out.
We really do need to take a moment to honor you, Generator Mom, for raising your hand to help us follow through, to carry us over the finish line of so many projects, and to be the ones to get ‘er done simply because you can.
Just take good care of yourself, Mama, because doing too much of what doesn’t light you up? That paves the way to burnout.
Instead, Generator Moms who respond to that which makes them sizzle and sparkle on the inside, and who listen to their inner Authority (which we’ll get to in future posts!) will give off a natural sizzle and sparkle on the outside. Which means you can be the Best Mom Ever!
Fun, Fast & Ready to Roll
You, my dear sparkly, magnetic, Generator Mom friends, make amazing mothers because, as long as you’re following those Sacral “yes’s,” you’re poised and ready to join in the fun, and you’re pretty much always ready to roll.
Your kids will never be caught dead saying, “I’m bored.” That’s because you’ve organized all the games, puzzles and science-project-sundries so they’re ready to whip out at a moment’s notice whenever a kid starts moping.
You, of all people, know darn well what it’s like to have so much energy for doing but not having an outlet to work it all off by day’s end.
You know how dreadful it can be to lie awake all night due to a day full of underwhelm and inactivity.
Which is why you know that, to keep yourself sane, you need to hit the gym or the pavement so you sleep well at night. The same is probably true for your kids. The last thing you want is for them to be bouncing off the walls at 10pm because they haven’t expended their energy.
In order for you both to get good rest (especially if you’re raising a little Generator), make sure you’re both burning off all your energy by bedtime–but make sure you do it by doing something y’all love.
But I’m not worried, because it’s likely you’re the mom who’ll go to great lengths to keep your wee ones busy, and you’ll probably be able to manage doing so without ever having to sign them up for summer camp.
It’s likely, too, that you’ve agreed to a full weekend of events that’ll keep the family bopping around to all the picnics, theme parks and live performances in your city.
On behalf of kiddos everywhere (and moms like me who just don’t have the energy), thank you for always being willing to play Hide ‘n Seek!
Poised to Support A Child in Need
What’s really awesome about Generator Moms is how capable they are of helping when their child needs them.
Not only are they responding all the time to every whim and need, they’ve got the power to support. You’ve got the kit full of Band-Aids and ointment in your back pocket, practically. The app at your fingertips showing all the possible symptoms of every rash.
Better still, your response system means you’re noticing. You’re keenly aware of what your kids are up to, how they’re feeling and whatever it might be that they need from you. And you’re picking up on this whether you realize it consciously or not.
Which is great news for them. Since you’re always responding, your kids are likely to feel seen, heard, and with any luck, understood.
The not so great news, for the kids, anyway? As they get older, because of your Sacral responding all the time, they probably wont’ be able to get away with much. Lucky for you, Mama, the chances of your kid sneaking out the window at midnight and you not being aware of it? Pretty low!

Open, Enveloping & Enthusiastic
Generator Mom, your aura is open and enveloping. You draw folks to you whether you want to or not. When you step into a room, we automatically want to hang out with you.
Do you even notice your radiance? I sure hope so!
Besides, the rest of us rely on you. We need you. We’ve gotta have that special someone who can act as an example of how to bask in the joys of life.
There has to be someone out there who can show the world what it’s like to blissfully pursue whatever thing it is that lights you up. Thanks for reminding us to chase our dreams!
Whether it’s running marathons, doing standup comedy or writing romance novels, you show us how to create and experience pure joy.
Your ability to keep-at-it and develop mastery of a thing is irresistably magnetic.
We can’t help but take note of your shimmer and shine as you go about doing your thing.
Better yet, your kids notice, too.
Which means you’re acting as one helluva role model for them.
Nothing says alignment and true beauty more than a Mom who honors her own desires, who goes after her own dreams, who fulfills her deepest joys.
So you keep doing you, Generator Mom. You got this. You’re doing amazing work. And we’re so glad to have you in our orbit!
